This historical campus has been a noteworthy landmark since been founded in the middle of the 1870s and has been a flagship institution for Boulder ever since.

Further city landmarks don't come much bigger of more striking than the Flagstaff Mountain, which attracts crowds of visitors who come here in the summer to hike, cycle, picnic and simply just to enjoy the views. The Boulder Reservoir is another summer hotspot and comes complete with a sandy area of beachfront.

In total, the University of Colorado campus covers some 600 acres / 243 hectares, and boasts a series of beautifully landscaped gardens. The Old Main Building contain an interesting Heritage Center which is worth a look. Also of interest is the university's Sommers Bausch Observatory, which is located along the Kittridge Loop Drive and offers lengthy star gazing sessions on Friday nights, during the summer months.

The Flagstaff Mountain stands high above the neighboring city of Boulder, where it is regularly frequents by lovers of the 'great outdoors'. During the summer months, between May and August, the Summit Nature Center is open at the weekends and is often of interest, as is the Flagstaff House, an acclaimed restaurant reputed to by Colorado's premier dining venue. People come to the Flagstaff House from far and wide, to enjoy the views of Boulder city far below and the changing seasons of the surrounding landscape. To reach the mountain summit, follow the Baseline Road in a westerly direction.

Canyon waterfalls rarely coming more impressive than the Boulder Falls, a cascade of ice-cold water, which plummets just under 21 meters / 70 feet. The falls are sited some 10 miles / 16 km to the west of central Boulder and are just off Highway 119 and the Canyon Boulevard, being very well signposted. One of the reasons that this natural landmark is visited by such large numbers is its easy access, being conveniently just a short stroll from the car park, other the other side of the actual highway.

Boulder Reservoir

During the sunny summer months of Colorado, the Boulder Reservoir really comes into its own as becomes an exceedingly popular destination for both locals and tourists alike. The reservoir is very much an important local landmark, lying on the easterly outskirts of the city. Visitors are able to take full advantage of the sweeping waterfront and shoreline, coming here to fish, sail, swim, or to sunbathe, on the adjoining beach. It is even possible to water ski here.

Fox Theater (The Fox)

The Fox Theater has long been an integral part of the music scene in Boulder and this popular concert hall venue is situated within the district of University Hill, on 13th Street. Just a couple of blocks from the campus of the University of Colorado, the Fox Theater dates from 1926, when it was originally known as the Rialto Theater. Despite being able to accommodate crowds of around 400, this popular venue is still able to feel very intimate, which is very much part of its charm and why so many big names choose to perform here, as they pass through from Denver. Past visiting artists have included Lyle Lovett, Sheryl Crow and even famous rapper, Snoop Dogg.
